What is an exhaust system?

An exhaust system minimizes the vehicle's impact on the environment by purifying the exhaust gases discharged by the engine, and reducing the noise created at the outlet of the exhaust. It also plays a role in ensuring that exhaust gases are discharged smoothly so the engine can exert its full performance potential. Motherson Yutaka develops and produces the parts that make up exhaust systems, such as the catalytic converters and silencers.

What is a catalytic converter?

• A catalytic converter is an exhaust gas purification device that converts hazardous substances in exhaust gases (CO, HC, and NOx) into harmless substances (CO2, H2O, and N2) by means of oxidation and reduction using catalysts.
• In recent years; in addition to catalytic converters, gasoline particulate filters (GPF) are installed that capture particulate matter (PM) emitted from direct-injection gasoline engines.
• Catalyst retaining technology is important because the strength of catalysts has been reduced to comply with strict emissions regulations.
• Motherson Yutaka has adopted the shrink canning technology by which the catalyst retaining force is kept constant by adjusting the diameter reduction amount of the catalyst case. This provides the realization of a high-performance exhaust gas purification device.

What is a silencer?

• A silencer is a device that smoothly guides the combustion gas generated in the engine into the atmosphere from the rear without interfering with engine output.
• It also reduces exhaust noise from the engine, ensures compliance with certification noise regulations and eliminates what would otherwise be uncomfortable noise from inside the vehicle.
• Motherson Yutaka is developing and mass-producing small, light silencers suitable for various vehicles, from light motor vehicles to V6 engine vehicles, according to needs.
